Love For All Animals

Written by Lens And Leash

This summer we had the pleasure of partnering up with portrait and event photographer Renata Steiner to highlight the shelter and animals up for adoption at the Seattle Animal Shelter in Seattle, Washington. Nata has a variety of talents and one of them is her incredible eye to detail in her animal portraits at Doghouse Portraits.

Renata Steiner is used to photographing dogs and cats but the Seattle Animal Shelter had a large variety of characters needing new homes. You will see that animals of all shapes and sizes are in need of warm, loving forever homes whether it be an adorable furry bunny to a sweet hard-shelled turtle.

Consider adopting your next fur baby whether it be a dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit or even a mouse from the Seattle Animal Shelter! They all need love and forever homes.

Thank you to Renata Steiner and the Seattle Animal Shelter for your precious time and help in finding these sweet creatures their new forever homes!

Fox & Cricket: (8 Months old Guinea Pigs)

Fox and Cricket are a super playful pair! They love rolling around a wicker ball to get the hay trapped inside, and they will popcorn (jump in the air!) with joy when you give them a new toy or puzzle to figure out.

Fox is the first one to explore a new place or new object, and Cricket usually hangs back until he sees it’s safe. But don’t let that fool you – Cricket is an adolescent and gets up to all sorts of antics of his own. He’s a handful for Fox to keep in check!

Munchy: ( 1 year old Guinea Pig)

Munchy is a great 1-year-old guinea pig that loves lap time. He melts in your lap, soaking up all the attention that he can. He is social, friendly, and easily handled.

Leon: (American Rabbit)

Leon is a very handsome grey & white lionhead mix rabbit that is looking for his new forever home! He has some attitude that says pick me if you want the most handsome rabbit ever!

Polaris: (11 year old American Pit Bull Terrier)

Polaris is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter. Please find info on how to adopt him below – thanks!

If you’re looking for a lovable dog who already has great manners and is predisposed to adoring his family (or whoever has a treat for him), Polaris is the dog for you!

He’s a big fella with lots of love to give, so he’s best suited for a household with adults, teens, possibly another dog, but no cats or small children who might be knocked over by his slobbery welcome home kisses! He loves going for short to medium distance walks at a nice relaxed pace taking time to sniff the flowers and soak up the sun. At home, he likes playing with his stuffed animals and sleeping 85% of the day away close to his people. Like a true gentleman, he is very polite and well behaved:
- he is potty trained
- he automatically sits when it’s time to put on his harness (or if he thinks you have a treat for him!)
- he takes his treats gently
- he does not try to chase other animals on walks
- he is friendly but not hard to manage around other dogs
- he can be left at home alone without a crate for hours at a time
- he does not beg for or steal people food
- he does not jump on the furniture
- he does not bark at random people/dogs/noises

Most importantly, he absolutely loves humans, especially his family. Polaris will follow you from room to room, just so that he can just nap in your proximity even if you’re not paying attention to him. He also has a habit of sleeping in the foyer waiting for his humans to get home from work. He’s friendly with guests, dog walkers and strangers on the street alike.

This wonderful dog qualifies for the Senior Citizen Discount program: senior citizens or disabled adults with a ‘Gold Card for Healthy Aging’, or a ‘FLASH’ card, issued by the City of Seattle, may adopt an adult dog (at least six years old) at a special price. There will be no fee for the adoption itself, and the licensing fee will be half-price!

Dash: (7 years old Papillon)

I’m Dash! I’m small and sweet and shy and very silly. Here are some of my best qualities: I’m gentle, calm, curious, playful, and absolutely love to snuggle. Oh, and I’m incredibly CUTE! I love sticking close to my favorite humans and I’m always ready for a belly rub. I love to go on walks, but other dogs and some strangers can make me nervous. A house with a yard would be ideal!

Here’s what I’m looking for: an adult only household, where I’m your only pet, and please be willing to continue helping me overcome my fears (the shelter can provide you with lots of advice!). I’ll need you to go slow and be alright with me being a bit worried about new situations. If you play “hard to get,” I will love you forever. I may be quite small, but I’ve got a big heart with lots and lots of love to give!

Luna Belle: (3 year old Doberman Pinscher/Pointer)

Just look at my big ol’ grin – I’m a happy girl, and you’ll make me even happier when you adopt me! I’m eager to please my people, cooperative, and friendly. I know ‘sit’ and ‘down’, and, a big plus – I’m house trained. Here’s some fun stuff we could do together – hiking, jogging, swimming, games of fetch, maybe some agility too! At the end of the day I’m great at cuddling on the couch. Here’s what my ideal home looks like – moderately active, adults-only, with some prior dog experience. I’d like to be your only dog please. Let’s get together and your smile will be as big as mine!

Mocha: (11 year old Domestic Shorthair Mix)

Catnip, head rubs, loving attention: these are a few of Mocha’s favorite things! This soft, sweet girl is quiet and snuggly, with a most earnest expression and lovely coloring. At 11 years old, Mocha is a veteran lap-warmer who will fit right into a calm, mellow home with adults and kids 10 and over. A delight in so many ways, Mocha is a bit wary of being groomed, so some cat experience is recommended if you’d like to bring this kitty home.

Sweet Mocha qualifies for the Senior Citizen Discount program: senior citizens or disabled adults with a ‘Gold Card for Healthy Aging’, or a ‘FLASH’ card, issued by the City of Seattle, may adopt an adult cat (at least six years old) at a special price. There will be no fee for the adoption itself, and the licensing fee will be half-price!

Samantha: (15 year old,Domestic Shorthair Mix)

Samantha is a sweet, affectionate girl looking for her forever home. She is happiest curling up next to you on the couch or sleeping at the foot of your bed, and she loves meeting new people – the more laps for her to sit on, the better. She has perfect litterbox manners, uses her scratching post unfailingly, and is a calm, gentle presence around the house.

Samantha is about 12 years old but is still spry and enjoys playtime, especially chasing her bird toy around the house. She will also happily wear a harness and leash and enjoys being able to lay out in the sun.

She seems to have some hearing loss, although it doesn’t slow her down at all. She has previously shared a foster home with both cats and dogs, and has gotten along great with the other cats in my home.

Samantha has kidney disease and to help keep her feeling her best, she’s on a special diet of wet food and receives fluid injections about once a week. She’s very easy to give fluids to (she always sits calmly in my lap for the duration) and SAS volunteers can help train adopters on the best way to manage this part of her care.

Samantha’s personality type is SIDEKICK, and here’s how she describes herself:
Like all sidekicks, I’m just plain good company. I like attention, and I also like my solitude. I don’t go looking for trouble but I’m no scaredy-cat, either. If you are looking for a steady companion to travel with you on the road of life, look no further.

There will be no fee for the adoption itself, and the licensing fee will be half-price!

Nubs: (13 year old Domestic Shorthair Mix)

Hello! I’m called Nubs – want to know why? It’s ’cause I have just a nub of a tail! I thinks it adds to my charm and character. It doesn’t show in my pictures so you’ll just have to come visit me to see!

I’m a relaxed and mellow kinda guy at 13 years old. I like human attention most of the time and consider myself the consummate lap cat. I even enjoy being groomed. I’m the ideal companion for someone with some prior cat experience, in a moderately active environment. It would be great for me to be your only pet – I want you all to myself! Stop by the shelter and look for me – Nubs. Meow!
