Santa Barbara Photographer
Written by Lens And Leash

This Spring we were excited to partner up with Santa Barbara lifestyle photographer Lauren Maeve. As a photographer that usually takes photos of horses and people, we asked her to turn her lens to the pups of Santa Barbara Dog Adoption & Welfare Group.

Lauren has a clean and crisp style that shines through in each photo she takes. Her ability to capture these pups personalities is impressive. Each photo really exudes the pups sweet demeanor and incredible zest for life.

We at Lens and Leash want to thank Lauren for donating her time and talent to helping these adorable pups find their forever homes.

Lens And Leash: When did you first start taking up photography and why?

Lauren McIntire: A Darkroom class was offered in high school. After working for other people for the last 10 years i decided to take on my own business as a photographer.

Lens And Leash: When did you start your photography business and what was your goal when you started the company?

Lauren McIntire: After working for horse trainers for the past 10 years i realized that my body wasn’t going to hold up with the physical demands of riding everyday. I thought for a while about what i could make a living doing. I had always had a love for photography. So i combined my love for animals and photography and started out as a equine photographer.

Lens And Leash: What services do you provide?

Lauren McIntire: Portrait/Engagement/Senior Portrait/Wedding/Equestrian/Events/Rodeo

Lens And Leash: What makes you stand out compared to other photographers?

Lauren McIntire: Oh man thats a hard one to answer. I believe that being a artist is the most humbling experience I have ever had. That being said I think my versatility as a photographer sets me apart from the rest.

Lens And Leash: What is your style and what do you like to photograph most?

Lauren McIntire: I mostly photograph Equestrians and Equestrian related events and fashion.

Lens And Leash: Do you have a favorite project you have shot and why?

Lauren McIntire: Yes, all of my branding images from the “Vaquero Vision” gallery

Lens And Leash: What has been your favorite location to work at so far?

Lauren McIntire: Valley of Fire, Las Vegas

Lens And Leash: What changes have you seen in the industry since you started?

Lauren McIntire: The industry has widened so much it is easy to find a niche but hard to get payed what we are worth.

Lens And Leash: What gets you most excited about your business and the future?

Lauren McIntire: Everything!

Lens And Leash: What inspires you?

Lauren McIntire: Beautiful people.

Lens And Leash: What is your favorite camera?

Lauren McIntire: Canon 5D Mark iii

Lens And Leash: What is the one thing you have to have on all of your shoots?

Lauren McIntire: Good moody lighting.

Lens And Leash: Do you have any tips for aspiring photographers?

Lauren McIntire: Make a website and get a nice business card. Fake it till you make it… the client doesn’t know you’re struggling until you tell them.

Lens And Leash: Do you have any pets? Have you ever adopted?

Lauren McIntire: Oh dear.. Yes! 6 horses and one Bull Terrier (Penelope) I have never adopted but I have rescued.

Lens And Leash: If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Lauren McIntire: Crimson and clover!!!

Lens And Leash: If you were a dog or cat, what type of dog/cat would you be and why?

Lauren McIntire: I would most definitely be a french bull dog.
