Akbash Animal Adoption Stories

He Has His Own Fan Club

Lens And Leash: Who is this adoption story about?

Florence McCall Phillips: Dash, he is a 9 year old male Akbash.

Lens And Leash: What made you decide to adopt?

Florence McCall Phillips: My dog died and I could not not live without a dog in my house, as they are vitally important to a happy home.

Lens And Leash: When and where did you adopt Dash?

Florence McCall Phillips: After looking at the local shelter dogs and not finding a dog that was good for me, I got online on PetFinder. I found 2 dogs at a shelter in Lander, Wyoming that fit my description, I had wanted a female yellow lab. I never go to Lander, but a good friend was driving there for a meeting, so I asked her to go visit the 2 dogs and bring home the one she liked the most. So she did and immediately liked Dash, but when she was driving home, she noticed that Dash was a male not a female and I said I didn’t care but just wanted a good dog. He has been the best dog that I ever have had in life, he is calm, regal, handsome and the neighborhood king, who walks himself and joins others neighbors for walks too. He does not need a collar and let’s himself in and out of the doggie door. He has his own fan club too. I am working on making him a therapy dog at the hospital.

Lens And Leash: How old was Dash when you adopted him and do you know anything about his life before you adopted him?

Florence McCall Phillips: He was about 8-9 months and he was found on the streets in Lander, WY.

Lens And Leash: What made you decide to adopt Dash specifically?

Florence McCall Phillips: I just saw a photo and thought he fit the description.

Lens And Leash: What is your favorite quirk about Dash?

Florence McCall Phillips: When we return from work every day he is sitting on the driveway waiting patiently, not laying down, sitting up right like expecting a treat.

Lens And Leash: Did you have to do any training with him after you adopted him?

Florence McCall Phillips: No training what so ever!

Lens And Leash: What tips or pieces of advice would you offer to people that are looking to adopt for the first time?

Florence McCall Phillips: Keep looking until you find your dream dog!

Lens And Leash: Would you adopt again and would you adopt from the same shelter/rescue?

Florence McCall Phillips: I would adopt from any shelter if that animal was meant for me.

We partnered with Florence back in January for an amazing photoshoot at Teton County Animal Shelter.
